Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kushinagar airport today. Meanwhile, PM Modi said that India is the centre of the faith of Buddhist society. At the same time, PM Modi is also going to lay the foundation stone of several development projects here. PM Modi will also attend a function on 'Abhidhamma Diwas' at Kushinagar Mahaparinirvan Temple.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said that India is the centre of faith, hope and trust of Buddhist society around the world. Today, this facility of Kushinagar International Airport is a wreath-laying ceremony to pay homage to him. Witnessing the entire journey from the knowledge of Lord Buddha to Mahaparinirvan, this region is directly connected to the world today. He said that special attention is being paid by India today to develop places associated with Lord Buddha, for better connectivity, to build facilities for devotees. The development of Kushinagar is among the priorities of the UP government and the Central Government.

Inaugurating Kushinagar airport, PM Modi said that more than 900 new routes have been sanctioned in the last few years under Udaan Yojna, out of which more than 350 have been air services which also started. More than 50 new airports or those which were not in service earlier have been commissioned. He said that the country has recently taken a major step towards Air India to ensure that the aviation sector of the country runs professionally, facilities and security get priority. These steps will give new energy to India's aviation sector. One such major reform is the opening up of defence airspace to civil use.
