Lucknow: PM Narendra Modi today handed over the Purvanchal Expressway to the state ahead of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. The 341 km long Poorvanchal Expressway will connect eastern and western UP. The expressway will start from Chand Sarai in Lucknow and go to Ghazipur. It has cost a total of Rs. 22,497 crore to prepare. The expressway will pass through 9 districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone from Azamgarh in July 2018. Inaugurating it today, he said that
When I laid the foundation stone of the Poorvanchal Expressway 3 years ago, I didn't think I would get off the plane on the same expressway one day and I feel blessed to dedicate this expressway. For the overall development of the country, balanced development of the country is equally important. It is not fair for any country to overtake some areas in the race for development and lag behind a few decades.

PM Modi said that even in India, which has been our eastern part, eastern India, North East state, despite so much potential for development, could not get as much benefit from the development in the nation as it should have. The kind of politics that took place in UP too, the way governments lasted for a long time, did not pay attention to the overall development of the state. This area of UP was a stronghold of mafias and its citizens were thrown into poverty.
