New Delhi: The foundation stone for the construction of a Parliament House has been completed today. PM Modi performed Bhoomi Pujan at the foundation stone program. The foundation stone of the new building being constructed under the Central Vista program near India Gate is just symbolic, but its construction cannot begin yet, as a petition in this regard is heard in the top court is going on.

This new Parliament building is an important part of the 20,000-crore Central Vista project, in which the government buildings on the 13.4-km-long Rajpath stretching from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate are to be renovated or revived. The four-storey building being constructed under the Central Vista Project will be spread over 64,500 square meters and will cost a total of Rs 971 crore to build. It is likely that its construction work will be completed by August 2022 i.e. 75th Independence Day of the country.

In the proposed building, a total of 888 members will have a place to sit in the house of the Lok Sabha, while in the joint session there will also be an option to increase it to 1224 members. A total of 384 members will be able to sit in the Rajya Sabha and keeping the future in mind, the option of increasing its capacity will be kept. Currently, a total of 543 members can sit in the Lok Sabha, while a total of 245 members can sit in the Rajya Sabha.
