New Delhi: A two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference is being held today in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. PM Narendra Modi left for Kyrgyzstan on Thursday morning. Pakistan's PM Imran Khan is participating for the first time at the conference, which begins in Bishkek on Thursday. Chinese President Xi Jinping has also arrived in the country. It is reported that PM Modi may take a meeting with these leaders at the conference.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday raced to Bishkek to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference. Aside from the conference he will meet PM Narendra Modi. This is the first meeting of the two leaders after the BJP's wanton victory in the Lok Sabha elections. The 19th Conference of the SCO will continue in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from June 13 to 14. The SCO is a China-led eight-member financial and security group that included India and Pakistan in 2017.

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which is taking place in the Kyrgyz Republic, will remain the main focus on international security situation and financial cooperation. He also said that his visit to this Central Asian country would empower India's relations with SCO member States. Ahead of Bishkek's June 13-14 visit, Modi said in a statement that his plan, aside from the SCO conference, is also to hold a bilateral meeting with several leaders.
