New Delhi: Today is the birth anniversary of freedom fighter and progressive writer Shyamji Krishna Varma. On this occasion, PM Narendra Modi has remembered him. PM Modi has saluted him on the birth anniversary of this great freedom fighter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted from his official Twitter handle, writing that 'pay homage to the great son of the nation Shyamji Krishna Varma on his birth anniversary.

PM Modi further wrote that "at home or abroad, through his revolutionary activities, he continuously stressed the resolve of independence. His contribution to the freedom struggle will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen". Let us tell you that Shyamji Krishna Varma was born on 4 October 1857 in Mandvi, Gujarat. Shyamji kept the torch of revolution of India's freedom struggle by staying abroad.

Shyamji received his education from Oxford University. He then bought a house for Indian students to stay in England and named it 'India House'. However, later this house became the centre of revolutionary activities. He also started several scholarships for the education of students. This true son of the country died on 30 March 1930.
