New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the countrymen at 8 PM tonight on the removal of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. In his address, Mr Modi will brief the country on the government's decision to withdraw the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divide the state into two union territories.
It may be mentioned that President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday allowed the repeal of the provisions of Section 370 of the Constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, the Union Government passed a bill to divide the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh) and remove the provisions of Article 370 by a majority in both the Houses. The bill will now be implemented legally after getting the approval of President Ram Nath Kovind.
The official notification says, "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause 3 of article 370 read with clause 1 of Section 370 of the Constitution of India, the President declares on the recommendation of Parliament that all clauses of the said article shall not apply from 6th August 2019. , except for clause 1. ''
