Lucknow: PM Narendra Modi will address his first virtual political rally for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on January 31. During this time, the focus will be on the districts going to the polls in the first phase. The Election Commission has banned rallies and roadshows till January 31 due to the rising cases of coronavirus.

Sources in the BJP said that if the Election Commission extends the ban, PM Modi may address similar virtual rallies. According to media reports, sources said that the rally on January 31 will be planned in such a way that it covers at least four to five districts of the western UP region in one go. As per the initial plan, the rally will cover districts like Saharanpur, Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar and Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The party plans to cover around 21 assembly segments through this rally. However, a draft to hold it is being prepared. Sources said, there will be an LED screen in every BJP Mandal for PM Modi's virtual rally in these districts. A target has been set to bring around 500 people on an LED screen. Thus, through LED screens, the party plans to add about 50,000 people to a virtual rally.
