New Delhi: PM Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jagannath will jointly inaugurate the new building of the Supreme Court of Mauritius today. Senior members of the Mauritius judicial system and other dignitaries from both countries will be present during the event through video conference. The building has been constructed with Indian grant assistance and will be India's first infrastructure project in Mauritius capital Port Louis.

The Government of India announced a US $353 million 'Special Economic Package' to Mauritius in 2016 for five projects, under which the apex court is the first new project to be built. The project has been completed within the stipulated time frame and at a lower cost than anticipated. This 10-floor building is spread over an area of about 4,700 square meters and its built-up area is 25,000 square meters.

The new building will house all the branches and offices of the top court of Mauritius, which will improve its efficiency. PM Modi and the Prime Minister of Mauritius jointly inaugurated the Phase-I and the new ENT Hospital project of the Metro Express project in Mauritius in October 2019. They have also been made under the special financial package.
