New Delhi: Japanese PM Fumio Kishida has arrived in New Delhi on Saturday. Here he will attend the 14th India-Japan Summit and hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart PM Narendra Modi. According to sources, during the meeting, the two leaders are likely to discuss issues related to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and relations with China. Apart from India and Japan, the US and Australia are also included in the quad group of four countries.

In view of China's growing steps in the Indo-Pacific, PM Kishida and PM Modi will hold discussions to strengthen partnerships in the region. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, the meeting, scheduled for Saturday, will provide an opportunity to discuss regional and global issues. He also said it is expected that there could be special talks on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and relations with China. On the one hand, where Japan has announced economic sanctions against Russia. At the same time, India is avoiding taking sides with anyone in this conflict of neighbours.

Even in the United Nations (UN), India did not vote against Russia. India says that relations with Japan are extremely important to bring stability to the Indo-Pacific region. At the QUAD meeting held in September last year, the leaders had announced that Japan will work with India on an investment of $100 million in the field of corona vaccine and medicines involved in treatment. The data shows that the bilateral trade between India and Japan for the year 2019-20 has crossed the $11.87 billion mark.
