New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the 'Fit India Campaign' on the occasion of National Sports Day on Thursday. The objective is to make the people in the country health conscious. The government will take it forward on the lines of the sanitation drive. The country celebrates 29th August as Sports Day every year. It is also the birthday of hockey magician Dhyan Chand. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the campaign at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi.
More than half a dozen central government ministries will work in close coordination to make the campaign a success. These include The Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, and the Rural Development. These Ministries are preparing a roadmap for the programmes at their respective levels. It will be disseminated through a large number of channels to make people aware of the importance of the Fit India Movement. Audiovisuals, booklets and other materials will also be provided for fitness. Mobile apps, web portals and social media will be assisted.
The campaign will last for about four years. It will focus on fitness in different subjects every year. The first year will be made aware of physical fitness, second-year eating habits, third-year eco-friendly lifestyle and ways to stay away from diseases.
