Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reaching Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal on Saturday on a two-day visit. After reaching Kolkata, he will be involved in the first two programs. On Saturday evening, PM Modi will reach Belur Math, the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission. Obviously, 12 January is also the birth anniversary of the great thinker and philosopher Swami Vivekananda.

In his youth, PM Modi was so impressed by the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda that he had decided to become an ascetic. He visited Belur Math for the first time in the 60s, but the then president advised him to focus more on education. He was below the minimum age required to become an ascetic. Later Modi went to RKM Center in Almora and his appeal was rejected there too.

After this, Modi moved to the Himalayas for two years and after that he returned to his village and started coming to the center in Rajkot. It was here that he met Swami Atmasthanaand. Swami Atmasthanand instructed him that his life is not for sanyas but he should work for the people. Atmasthanand died in 2017. Expressing grief over his demise, Modi described him as a personal loss.
