New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has remembered Imam Hussain, the religious leader of Muslims, on the tenth day of Muharram month. Imam Hussain was the emperor of Mohammad Saheb and gave his martyrdom while fighting bravely in the battle of Karbala. PM Modi has remembered Imam Hussain on this occasion by tweeting from his official Twitter handle.

PM Modi wrote in his tweet that, 'We remember the sacrifice of Imam Hussain. For him, there was nothing more than truth and justice. Their emphasis on equality and fairness is remarkable, it gives strength to many.' The name of the first month of the Islamic calendar is Muharram. For Muslims, it is the most Pak month and the beginning of the Islamic calendar year also starts from this month.

The 10th of Muharram month is called Roz-e-Ashura. On this day, Imam Hussain got martyred in the Karbala battle. This is considered to be the most important day of Muharram. It is celebrated as a month of sadness. On the 10th day of Muharram, the day when Imam Hussain Ibn Ali, grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), and his followers were martyred in 61 Hijri or 680 CE at Karbala, in present-day Iraq. This war was fought against oppression and for justice. In this battle, Imam Hussain and 72 of his companions were killed by the Prophet Mohammad.
