Bangalore: At Whitefield Metro Station, on March 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 13.71 km section of the Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2 that runs from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line. PM also took a ride in the newly inaugurated metro.

PM Narendra Modi was accompanied by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, among others.

According to officials, this segment was the eastern continuation of the Purple Line, the operational East-West Corridor, which runs from Whitefield Station to Baiyappanahalli.

This metro line, which was constructed for about Rs. 4,250 crores, would give commuters in Bengaluru a clean, safe, quick, and comfortable commuting option, improving convenience and easing traffic congestion in the area.

The 13.71 km portion of the 15.81 km expansion between K R Puram and Whitefield, which officials claim will shorten travel time on this route by 40% and ease traffic congestion, was inaugurated on Saturday.

Five lakh to six lakh commuters working in tech parks, export promotion industrial regions, malls, hospitals, and a number of Fortune 500 firms would benefit from the new line of the Bangalore Metro, it was noted. The officials announced that five trains with six coaches each, purchased from BEML Limited, would run on this route and that additional trains would be held as a backup.

During '75th Anniversary of Indian Independence', the country has resolved to develop. Many times people ask how India will develop in such a short time? There are so many challenges, so much work, how will it be completed in such a short time? Everyone's effort is the only answer to this question said Prime Minister.
