NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Mahatma Phule's birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to him on Monday.

Mahatma Phule is widely regarded as a champion of social justice and a source of hope for countless people,  Prime Minister said

Modi remarked in a tweet, "Mahatma Phule is generally regarded as a champion of social justice and a source of inspiration for many. He was a complex individual who worked relentlessly for social equality, women's empowerment, and educational advancement. On the occasion of his Jayanti, tributes have been paid to him." Prime Minister Modi shared a clip from his 'Mann Ki Baat' show from last month in another tweet. "Today is Mahatma Phule's Jayanti, and in a few days, on the 14th, we will commemorate Ambedkar's Jayanti. They were honoured during last month's #MannKiBaat. Mahatma Phule and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's contributions to India would be remembered forever "said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced during his month-long 'Mann Ki Baat' that "We shall also commemorate the birth anniversaries of two notable individuals during the month of April. Both have had a significant impact on Indian society. Mahatma Phule and Babasaheb Ambedkar are two remarkable characters. Both of these great men fought injustice and unfairness with tenacity. In that age, Mahatma Phule established schools for girls and spoke out against female infanticide. He also started massive campaigns to end the water shortage."
