NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit in Delhi today. The Ministry of Culture is hosting the two-day summit in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation on April 20 and 21. 

The theme of the summit is "Responses to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Praxis. The Summit will be attended by eminent Buddhist monks, scholars and delegates from different parts of the world. Representatives of more than  170 countries will be participating during the inauguration of the Global Buddhist Summit.

This summit aims to discuss issues of Buddhist and universal concern with the leadership and researchers of the "Buddhist Dhamma" worldwide and to develop policy recommendations to jointly solve these issues. 

The summit's discussion would focus on how the core principles of the Buddha Dhamma can offer motivation and direction in modern contexts.

Eminent academics, Sangha leaders, and Dharma practitioners from around the world will also attend the summit. They will discuss important world concerns and search for solutions in the Buddha Dhamma, which is founded on universal principles. 

"The discussions will be held under four themes: Buddha Dhamma and Peace; Buddha Dhamma: Environmental Crisis, Health and Sustainability; Preservation of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition; Buddha Dhamma Pilgrimage, Living Heritage and Buddha Relics: a resilient foundation to India's centuries-old cultural links to countries in South, South-East, and East Asia," it added.
