NEW DELHI: Following the release of videos shot by two jawans from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) alleging provision of insufficient and bad quality food and lack of facilities similar to those given to the aarmy, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has taken note of the videos and asked for a report from the ministry of home affairs.

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said that the food given to the troops at forward locations is being evaluated. "I am monitoring it myself. We have made improvements after a 2012 or 2013 CAG report," he told reporters.

The BSF said an audit of the prevalent system and chalking out shortcomings in it is being done. It also said it has taken a holistic view of the situation and the follow up process has been swung into action.

Other measures are suggesting procedural and systematic improvements and strengthening the vigilance set up for double checks. An important measure being taken is enhancing formal and informal communication with the jawans.

On Wednesday, minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju said the centre has deployed dieticians to all BSF border outposts.
