Police arrested 3 for selling IPL tickets in black

Hyderabad: On Sunday, the Commissioner’s Task Force, Central Zone Team apprehended three persons working at the Events Now ticket counter, located at Assembly Metro Rail station, Hyderabad, who were selling tickets for the matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches illegally.

The police said that the accused, identified as 19-year-old Ranjith, Varun, and Rahul, both aged 18, were ticket booking clerks and agents of ‘Events Now’, an event management company, and were selling tickets at a counter near the Assembly Metro Rail Station. The accused is learned to have been selling the tickets in black by charging different amounts based on the demand for the match.

Inspector Sayini Srinivasa Rao, of the Central Zone Task Force Team, said the three were selling tickets priced at Rs 1,000 for Rs 2,000 and tickets priced at Rs 1,500 for Rs 3,000. An amount of Rs 37,500, 16 tickets and three mobile phones were seized from them. The arrested were handed over to Saidabad police. In May last year, the Hyderabad police uncovered a massive cricket betting racket as it arrested 12 persons and seized net cash of Rs 15.5 lakh.
