Tirunelveli: After five killings, Tirunelveli district police formed eight special teams on Friday, September 17 to maintain peace in the respective villages and the district. According to the information, on Monday night, September 13, Shankar Subramaniam (37), was beheaded by a gang.

The murder is believed to be in retaliation for the murder of a person from the SC community in 2013. According to the police, the head of the deceased was placed on the grave of Manthiram, the man who died in 2013. According to police, Mariyappan was an accused in another caste murder case in 2014.

Tirunelveli Superintendent of Police, Manivannan told IANS: "The police have formed eight special teams to bring peace and social harmony among the people after some of the killings." The police had arrested six persons, including Maharaja (20), son of Manthiram of Kothankulam, in connection with the murder of Shankar Subramaniam. Eight people were arrested in Mariyappan's murder.
