Police cleared the traffic for speedy movement of Kidney from Pune to Nashik

Nashik, on Wednesday, City police cleared the traffic for the rescue of the patient to make assure that the kindney should be deliver fast from Pune to Nashik.

The ambulance was escorted by the police with the kidney from Sinnar to reach the patient at Rishikesh hospital at Gnagapur Road for the crucial transplant.

However, no green corridor was created this time around.

"A deputy commissioner of police from Pune with B+ve blood group admitted at Ruby hospital in Pune was declared brain dead by the doctors. Through counselling, the relatives were conveinced to donate the deceased's organs on Tuesday afternoon," said, Bhausaheb Morey, director of Rishikesh hospital.

He further added, "The doctors then went on to harvest the kidneys, liver and eyes. Incidentally, the hospital got a call inquiring about a kidney with the matching blood group. The patient who needed the kidney was the wife of a policeman in Nashik".

Morey said, "As the kidney has a longer shelf life, there was no need to create a green corridor for its transportation. The kidney reached the hospital around 10.40am on Wednesday after travelling for three hours and 40 minutes. The transplant carried on the entire day".

According to Devidas Patil, assistant commissioner of police (traffic), a police escort was provided by the rural police from Sangamner to the city limits after which the city police took over.
