Kanpur: A young man was killed when a police jeep hit him in Saiydnagar in Kalyanpur Thana locality on Tuesday night. People who were angry with the incident pelted stones at the police jeep. SSP and SP West, who were reported to be in the area, also suffered a protest. Local people tried to fire the police jeep. Police officers have been able to control the situation after a hard fight.

As per the information received from sources, Rajat Verma (28), who lives in Syed Nagar, was sitting on a terrace outside his house at around 2pm on Tuesday night. From there, the jeep of the Kalyanpur police station went on a high speed and broke the shop of pan masala and climbed it and struck the silver with a power pole. Police personnel in the Jeep fled after the crash. Rajat Verma was seriously injured. Watching this, people pelted stones at the police jeep.

With this, a force of several police stations reached the spot about 15 minutes later. The locality turned into an encampment. The police took admitted to the Halot hospital. But doctors pronounced him dead. People started uproas by the news of Rajat's death. Seeing, the uproar started there, the SSP and SP West, who were on the spot, were able to convince the local people to calm down. People allege that, the cop who was driving Jeep was drunk.
