Police seize chewing tobacco worth Rs 1.43 crore in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Four people got arrested for illegally transporting and selling chewing tobacco in Hyderabad.  The accused gang was arrested and the contraband was seized by the police.

According to the report, the contraband was seized from two goods vehicles. The vehicles were found near the Secunderabad railway station. The police confiscated banned chewing tobacco from the accused. The contraband found with the accused was priced over Rs 1.43 crore.

According to the news agency, PTI, the prime accused was earlier arrested in 2018 for the illegal trading of banned chewing tobacco. After his arrest in 2018, the accused allegedly established a manufacturing unit in Gujarat and started operating from there. The accused used to transport contraband through railway cargo service from Ahmedabad to Secunderabad.

The accused were allegedly selling the chewing tobacco in Hyderabad and Bidar in Karnataka.

Earlier, In February, the state tourism department of Hyderabad passes a rule according to which the people visiting tourism spots will not be allowed to chew tobacco, smoke or spit. The department also stated that a fine worth Rs 200 will be levied at anyone violating the rule. The rule was passed to ensure the cleanliness of tourist spots in Hyderabad
