On Sunday night, Cachar police fired at a dacoit who was sought in at least three robbery cases. On Saturday night, police nabbed Hossain Ahmed Laskar (35) from the Sonai region. He allegedly assaulted the officers, injuring two of them, before escaping.

Police opened fire on Laskar, according to Subrata Kumar Sen, ASP. He suffered an injury to his leg. It was the third incident in which an arrested person attempted to run from police custody and was shot at.

Tazuddin, who was detained on suspicion of dacoity, allegedly attempted to run and was caught. The following day, authorities apprehended Haji Nizamuddin, a mafia leader who was illegally exchanging Burmese betel nut with his Katigorah neighbours. Haji allegedly jumped from the police vehicle while he was being transferred to Silchar. Police opened fire and Haji received injury on his left leg.

Meanwhile, Tazuddin's relatives and neighbours, who live in Dhanehari, Sonai, maintained that he was innocent. According to them, Taz worked as a day labourer and had no criminal past.
