New Delhi: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has turned 50 today. He was born on 19 June 1970 in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi is the elder of the two children of Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi. His younger sister Priyanka Gandhi is trying to step into the politics of Uttar Pradesh. In the Nehru-Gandhi family, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi have been sitting on the post of PM.
The political career of Rahul Gandhi, grandson of the late Indira Gandhi, has been full of ups and downs. For the first time, he entered Parliament by winning the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi in 2004. He represented the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in the 2009 and 2014 parliament. In 2007, he was made the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. Along with this, he was given additional responsibility to connect the youth with the party. He was instructed to look into the work of Youth Congress and National Students Union, the student unit of Congress.
In 2013, the party decided to pursue Rahul Gandhi. He was appointed to the post of Congress Vice President and on 11 December 2017 was appointed the National President of the Congress Party. The 2019 Lok Sabha election proved to be nothing short of a shock for Rahul Gandhi. He had to face defeat from his traditional seat. BJP leader Smriti Irani lauded the victory of Amethi Lok Sabha seat. Even though Rahul Gandhi had to face defeat in Amethi seat, but he saved his reputation from Kerala's Wayanad seat.
