Men arrive and Men depart, but one amongst many leaves an impression on the hearts. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been amongst the most loved politicians ever, in the history of the country.

Born on the 25 December 1924,  Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, served as the Prime Minister of India, twice in his lifetime. For the first Time, he became the Prime Minister Of India, for a period of 13 days. The next time he became the Prime Minister for a period of 5 years, from 1998 to 2004.

  He served as the member of the Indian Parliament for about four decades. For about 10 times, he was elected to the Lok Sabha and twice, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Till 2009, he was the Member of Parliament from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, post which he resigned from active politics due to serious health issues.

 

Shri Vajpayee is also considered as one of the founders of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which later came to be known as Bhartiya Janta Party.

 During the rule of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, he served as the Minister of External Affairs in his cabinet.

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the major pillar who restructured the Bhartiya Jana Sangh into Bhartiya Janata Party, after their government collapsed, in the year 1980.

 

Vajpayee has been Awarded India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, in the year 2014.

Prime Minister Modi’s government, in the year 2014 had declared Shri Vajpayee’s Birthday (25th December) as the Good Governance Day).
