Kolkata: A three-member Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team reached west Bengal industries minister Partha Chatterjee's Kolkata office on Monday for questioning in connection with the i-core ponzi scam probe. The economic offences cell of the CBI had asked Chatterjee to appear before its officials on September 13.

Chatterjee, however, had insisted that he was busy for some reason, so his office could be questioned. Let us tell you that Chatterjee, general secretary of the West Bengal unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was allegedly seen at some of the i-core programmes that have now been closed. The company is accused of extorting money from people by promising them a good amount of money in return for investment.

Like companies like Sarda Chit Fund and Rose Valley Chit Fund, I-Core had raised money from the public through various schemes. The CBI had on May 9, 2014, initiated an inquiry into the Sarda and other Ponzi scams on the orders of the Supreme Court.
