Rome: According to the Vatican, Pope Francis spent a second restful night in the hospital after having surgery to remove intestinal scar tissue and repair a hernia in his abdominal wall.
Further medical updates were anticipated later in the day, the Holy See press office reported early on Friday. Francis' condition is stable, according to the Vatican, and his post-operative recovery is regarded as normal.
Following a procedure in 2021 to remove a portion of his colon, the 86-year-old Francis was admitted to the Gemelli hospital on Wednesday for his second major abdominal operation in two years. Doctors performed the procedure to remove internal scarring or adhesions on the intestine that had partially blocked it.
