Government officials say they are confident of fully vaccinating almost all adults by December, giving confidence to announce a gradual resumption of vaccine exports in the October quarter. The government said in May that the production of Covishield could reach 75 crore doses between August and December, but the actual production could exceed 90 crore, two other sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. Bharat Biotech, maker of India's first domestically grown shot, Covaxin, said in a media report that its monthly production will triple to around 100 million doses by the end of the year.

Health Minister Mandaviya told reporters on Monday that he expects total domestic vaccine production to exceed 1 billion doses in the October-December quarter, which will be more than enough to meet the domestic demand. Bharat Biotech's chairman and managing director Dr Krishna Ella said about Covaxin: “This month, we are supplying 35 crore doses, of which 3 crore doses are from Hyderabad, including pharmaceutical substances supplied by Indian Immunologics Limited (IIL). We will supply 5.5 crore doses next month.

The Bengaluru facility is gaining momentum after the company got the license a week ago. He further added, “We have increased the production capacity in Gujarat. With the help of all the partners – IIL, Haffkin Institute, Bharat Immunological and Biological Company Limited and Hester Lifesciences it is possible to reach 100 million doses by the end of the year. From Chiron Behring plant. Commercial batches of Covaxin will be available for supply from this month and production has just started at the Hester Lifesciences plant."
