Kia has released a teaser for its forthcoming SUV for the American market. While Kia has not announced the name, based on its look in the teaser image, it is commonly assumed to be the new generation Sportage SUV.

The 'all-new, boldly styled, and extremely capable SUV' will make its US premiere on October 27th, according to Kia. Early next year is when it is expected to be available for purchase.

The new Sportage SUV will be available with a variety of 'powerful and economical engines. The SUV will be available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, according to the automaker. Apart from that, the 2022 Sportage SUV is expected to include "several standard advanced driving aid systems and high-tech infotainment choices." Kia also claims that the Sportage SUV will have features that will pique the attention of enthusiasts. With higher ground clearance, several driver-selectable terrain settings, and all-terrain tyres, the 2019 Kia Sportage is expected to offer a "new level of off-road performance."

Kia's N3 will power the fifth-generation Sportage SUV. This is the same platform that underlies Hyundai vehicles including the Tucson, Sonata, and Santa Fe, as well as Kia products like the Sorento and K5.

In terms of design, the Kia Sportage will maintain its strong front end with the iconic tiger-nose grille. It is flanked by LED modules in the shape of a boomerang. The new generation Kia Sportage's interior is anticipated to take some cues from the EV6. A single 12.3-inch curved glass display panel will house both the infotainment and driving information systems. It is also expected to come with haptic feedback and physical controls on the dashboard.

For the first time, the 2017 Kia Sportage will likely be available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The Hyundai Tucson and Santa Fe, as well as the Kia Sorento, are expected to have the same 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder engine as the Sportage SUV. The engine will be powered by an electric motor that is connected to a lithium-ion battery pack and will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Due to a more powerful 99-hp electric motor and a 13.8-kWh battery, the hybrid powertrain is projected to generate about 227 hp, while the plug-in hybrid variant is expected to produce 261 hp.
