With parts of Varanasi facing floods, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke to the local administration and assured them of all possible assistance.
Official sources told before media that Prime Minister Modi had a detailed conversation with the Varanasi administration regarding the flood-related situation there. "He took stock of the entire situation and assured all possible support," they said. Prime Minister Modi represents Varanasi in Lok Sabha.
There was a sense of panic gripped among residents of low-lying areas in PM Modi's Varanasi constituency as the water level continues to rise. Due to the rise in water level, urban colonies have started getting inundated and boats are plying on city streets. The water level of the river Ganga has already crossed the danger mark and it is still rising, as per report yesterday. The ghats were badly affected by the rising waters. Manikarnika Ghat has already got submerged and the cremations are being done on a platform above the road.
