Postponement of Olympics has given Deepak Punia time to fine-tune skills and aim for medal: WFI chief

Noida: Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh feels that wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Deepak Punia and Ravi Kumar can win medals in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also pointed out that the Tokyo Olympics which was pushed back by a year due to the coronavirus pandemic has given time to Deepak to hone his skills further. He told ANI, "I am banking upon Bajrang, Vinesh and Ravi, as we all know these three are the major force to reckon with. Deepak Punia is also in the line as I feel he would have been benefited by the postponement of Tokyo Olympics."

The players who qualified for the postponed Tokyo Olympics includes Wrestlers Bajrang (men's freestyle 65 kg), Vinesh (women's freestyle 53 kg), Deepak (men's freestyle 86 kg) and Ravi Kumar (men's freestyle 57 kg). Vinesh qualified for the quadrennial event in the women's 53 kg event after winning the bronze medal at the 2019 World Championship, Bajrang earned his place in September 2019 after winning a bronze medal at the showpiece event.
