NEW DELHI: R.K. Singh, the Union Power Minister, has requested Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi to take action against responsible officers who provided him with inaccurate coal dispatch information.

"Your officers who told you that they had significant supplies but the Gencos were not lifting gave you incorrect information," Singh wrote in a letter to the Coal Minister dated December 9, 2021. Why didn't they load the rakes if they had the stock? They appear to have exaggerated the output numbers. "Proceedings against the police in question must be begun." We followed up with the Generation Companies (GENCOS). Despite what your commanders have told you, none of the main GENCOS received the coal quantity that they had requested. The data for 22 key GENCOS during the critical period of April to October 2021 is available. They had indented a total of 67,098 rakes, of which the coal firms had endorsed to deliver 55,155 rakes and the railroads had sanctioned 55,055 rakes, but the actual coal supply from coal companies was just 34,620 rakes," Power Minister Singh wrote in the letter.

Singh went on to say that demand will pick up again starting in mid-March 2022. "I feel compelled to point out that the number of rakes promised to be dispatched per day in meetings with the Home Minister, Cabinet Secretary, and PMO are not bieng dispatched."
