Powerful earthquake in Indonesia's Sulawesi kills at least 7, several injured

A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake Jolted Indonesia's Sulawesi island Friday, killing at least seven people. Dozens more were injured when the quake struck in the early hours, triggering panic among the terrified residents of the island.

According to Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency. The epicentre of the earthquake, which struck at 1.28 a.m. local time, was six kilometres (3.73 miles) northeast of Majene city at a depth of 10 kilometres. Rescuers searched for over a dozen patients and staff trapped beneath the rubble of a hospital that was flattened when a powerful earthquake rocked Indonesia's Sulawesi island Friday. A hospital in Mamuju, a city of some 110,000 in West Sulawesi province, was levelled.

Earlier, In 2018, a 7.5-magnitude quake and a subsequent tsunami in Palu on Sulawesi left more than 4,300 people dead or missing.
