SEOUL: Lee Jun-seok, the chairman of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday to discuss different support measures and development cooperation between the two nations, according to party officials.
Due to security concerns, the meeting took place on Monday, the third day of Lee's journey to Ukraine as the leader of a PPP team of about ten people, including politicians, as per a news release from the party.
As per reports, representatives from Ukraine's presidential office requested military assistance and presented ideas for South Korea's participation in post-war rehabilitation projects in war-torn cities during the meeting. Lee promised the Ukrainian authorities that he would convey their message to President Yoon Suk-yeol. Lee also expressed his support, adding that South Korea will continue to assist Ukraine in finding peace.
"We went through a difficult war in the past, and I believe the difficulty can be overcome in a similar manner," Lee said. "International solidarity based on freedom and peace is urgently required." The PPP group also met with Oleksandr Korniyenko, the Ukrainian parliament's chief deputy speaker, and other parliamentary officials on the same day.
