According to the Hindu calendar, Pradosha fast is kept on every month of Triodashi. It is believed that after worship and fasting of Lord Shiva on the day of Pradosh, the sin of a person gets stained and he gets salvation.

This time, this Pradosh festival is coming on 28th April, Saturday. It is believed that the devotee who hears or reads the Pradosha fast Katha after concentrating on Shiva Puja on the day of Pradosha does not have any poverty, and all the sufferings of life itself get away.

According to a legend described in the Puranas, in ancient times, a widowed Brahmin used to make her son  beg . One day when he was returning with a begging, he had seen a beautiful child on the bank of the river. He asked the boy that Who is he ? So the boy told that - he is Prince Dharmagupta of the country of Vidarbha. In a fierce battle, the enemies killed his father and grabbed his kingdom. Then his mother died and made him out of the state. He heard the child's voice, the Brahmin adopted that child and he raised him like his own son.

One day the Brahmani went to Dev Temple with the two children. There they met Rishi Shandilya and the sage told the entire story to the Brahmin and Rishi Shandilya advised both the children to perform Pradosha fast. By the command of the sage, both the children started taking the vows of Pradosha. All performed the fast from the full legislation as told by the sage, but he did not know what this fast would give them.

One day, both the boys were roaming in the forest, and then they found some Gandharva girls. Brahmin child returned home but Rajkumar Dharmagupta stayed there. They were attracted to a Gandharva girl named "Anshumati" and started talking to her.

Gandharva Kanya and Rajkumar got attracted on each other; She called the Prince to meet her father for marriage. On the second day when he came to meet Gandharv Kanya , her father knew that he is the prince of Vidarbha. Under the command of Lord Shiva, Gandharvaj married off his daughter to Rajkumar Dharmagupta.

Rajkumar's time was changed, and after this Rajkumar Dharmagupta fought a lot, prepared his Gandharva army again and get back his Vidarbha country.

After some time, they came to know that whatever happened in the past, all this was the result of the Pradosha fasting of Brahmani and Rajkumar Dharmagupta. By which pleased Lord Shiva gave him the power to fight with every difficulty of life.
