Director Prakash Jha, who brought real life in his films, was born on February 27, 1952, in Champaran, Bihar. His initial education was in Bihar, after which he did his BSc Honours in Physics from Ramjas College, Delhi University. After this, he decided that he would become a painter and came to Mumbai to take admission to JJ College of Arts. In Mumbai, he saw the shooting of the film Dharma and decided that he would produce the film and so he took admission to do an editing course at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.
In the middle of the course, due to the student dent education, the institute was closed for a few days and he came back to Mumbai and never went back again. Despite leaving the course incomplete, he did not give up his filmmaking dream and made his first documentary "Under the Blue" in 1974 and this trend did not stop again. Prakash Jha has so far made 25 documentaries, two TV features, three TV serials and nine feature films.
Prakash Jha has so far received 8 National Film Awards, three Filmfare Awards and two Screen Awards. Apart from this, he has also received many other awards. Among the films directed by Prakash Jha are "Bandish", "Mratiyudand", "Rajneeti", "Apharan", "Gangaajal", "Aarakshan" and "Satyagraha". Producer-director Jha is a filmmaker who is at the box office every time he hopes for socio-political change through films.
