Bengaluru: Post actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, southern megastar Prakash Raj has decided to enter in political plunge. In a tweet on the New Year, Raj announced that he would be contesting the upcoming 2019 general elections as an independent candidate.

 Read the actor’s tweet here: “HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE… a new beginning ... more responsibility… with UR support I will be contesting in the coming parliament elections as an INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. Details of the constituency soon. Ab ki baar Janatha ki SARKAR #citizensvoice #justasking in parliament too.”

Raj has been outspoken about his reservations with the ruling Narendra Modi government, particularly since his close pal and Kannada journalist Gauri Lankesh was killed allegedly by Right-wing members.

His announcement on Twitter was received optimistically, with most comments congratulating the vetern actor and wishing him good luck in his political career.

Worth mention here within an hour of  posting the tweet, it received more than 1,000 likes.

It is noted that Raj's entry into politics will be closely watched as he follows in the footsteps of his age groups. While Kamal Haasan has already officially launched his political party, Rajinikanth is yet to figure a separate political individuality.
