Prashant Bhushan has filed a writ petition in the apex court. It states that the right to appeal against conviction in the original criminal contempt case should be heard through a large and separate bench. The petition has been filed through his lawyer Kamini Jaiswal. The petition states that the right to appeal is a fundamental right under the constitution and is also guaranteed under global law. This will serve as an important safeguard against wrong punishment and will in fact enable the provision of truth as a defense.
