The government of every state is trying to protect the public from the virus. Haryana government is preparing to give incentives to consumers under the prepaid electricity facility soon. Its purpose is to attract consumers towards the system. Departmental sources said that under this system, it is proposed to provide five percent cheaper electricity than the current domestic tariff. The Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) have also made the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission chairman DS Dhesi aware of this plan and progress report.

Prepaid billing facility will be available to the same electricity consumers, whose homes have smart meters installed. The prepaid system will be installed in these smart meters. Under which consumers will be able to use electricity voluntarily under regular tariff or prepaid tariff. The department has set a target of installing smart meters in the homes of 10 lakh consumers in Haryana by December 2021. Till date, 1.5 lakh consumers have got smart meters installed. Under the facility, consumers will be able to recharge their electric meters themselves.

The work of installing smart meters is going on fast. Nearly one and a half million smart meters have been installed. The prepaid facility will be provided soon in them. The tariff has been prepared for this. Final will be done only after approval. But it is certain that consumers will be given incentives if they use electricity from the prepaid system.
