New Delhi: The second wave of corona infection in the country seems to be slowing down now, but children's vaccine is being trialled fast amid warnings of a third wave. In Delhi AIIMS, 12 to 18 year olds have been given a dose of covaccine and now trials will be started on children between 6 and 12 years of age. Children will be selected for the same from Tuesday.

According to media reports, the process of selection of children between 6 and 12 years of age for the trial of covaxin will begin in Delhi AIIMS from Tuesday. Children between the ages of 2 and 6 will be included after clinical trials on children between 6 and 12 years of age. According to AIIMS, children between the ages of 12 and 18 have been given the first dose of the vaccine and will be given the second dose after 28 days.

On May 12, the Subject Expert Committee recommended the covaccine to be trialled on children amid warnings of a third wave. The drug controller general of India (DCGI) then allowed the trial. The trial will be conducted on a total of 525 children across the country. Three groups of 175-175 children have been formed. The first group will include 175 children between the ages of 12 and 18. The second group will have 175 children between the ages of 6 and 12 and the third group 175 children between the ages of 2 and 6.
