Dhaka: Indian President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Dhaka for a three-day state visit to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's victory in the Liberation War and the end of Mujib year.
At 11:10 a.m., President Ram Nath Kovind landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport aboard Air India aircraft AI1. Md Abdul Hamid, his Bangladeshi counterpart, greeted him warmly. Kovind is accompanied by his wife and daughter, as well as the Indian Education Minister, two Members of Parliament, and the Foreign Affairs Secretary.
According to Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, this is President Kovind's first visit to Bangladesh. Momen said he will then pay respects to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
"The President and Prime Minister of a country touring a neighbouring country in the same year is unique in history," the Foreign Minister added, referring to Kovind's visit and that of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year. The excursions are a representation of the two countries' established friendship."
The President's visit on this historic occasion, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, reflects the tremendous significance that both countries have on their bilateral relationship. "It also underscores both countries' shared determination to further deepen and strengthen their comprehensive and irreversible alliance, which is founded on historical and cultural links, mutual trust, and understanding," according to the Ministry.
