New Delhi:  India's President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, addressed the Joint Sitting of both Houses of Parliament in Kingston on May 17, 2022.

The President spoke on the occasion, saying that it is an honour for him to address the august meeting of the leaders of Jamaica's dynamic democracy as a representative of the world's largest democracy. He stated that our two countries are linked not only by the Indian diaspora and cultural ties, but also by our shared conviction in democracy and liberty.

The Jamaican Constitution is built on the principle that all citizens are created equal. Our founding ancestors shared this concept and advocated for individual liberty for all Indian citizens. They built a new nation based on freedom, democracy, and equality. They also assured that we continued to celebrate 'Unity in Diversity,' which is quite similar to Jamaica's motto of 'Out of many, one People.'

Jamaica is primed for even greater economic success because of its abundant natural resources, strategic position, young population, and energetic leadership, President said. It is a preferred partner for other countries due to its leadership in the CARICOM region, international rules-based behaviour, and eagerness to take on more responsibilities.

He said, Jamaica's strategic location near some of the world's greatest economies, as well as its bright pool of English-speaking youth, provide it a good opportunity to become a "knowledge highway" and benefit from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. India shares Jamaica's Vision 2030 aims of empowering its people and maintaining a secure, cohesive, and just society while growing its economy.
