NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, which commemorates the birth of Gautam Buddha, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the nation on Monday.

President Kovind said in his message: "Lord Buddha demonstrated the path of nonviolence, compassion, and tolerance to humanity. His teachings are more relevant today than ever before. Let us all agree to follow Lord Buddha's example." 

Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said in tweets: "Warm congratulations on Buddha Purnima's auspicious occasion. Lord Buddha, one of the world's most prominent spiritual gurus, conveyed the most profound truths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recalled Lord Buddha's principles and reaffirmed his resolve to uphold them on the occasion. "On Buddha Purnima, we remember Lord Buddha's principles and renew our pledge to uphold them. Lord Buddha's thoughts have the potential to make our planet more peaceful, harmonious, and sustainable "He sent out a tweet.

"Lord Buddha's teachings intended to discover the source of our sufferings and to free sentient creatures from suffering. "Lord Buddha and his 'Dhamma' are undeniably a source of eternal light, guiding us along the road of morality, contentment, and happiness. Let us pledge to uphold the values of global love, compassion, and equality as demonstrated by Lord Buddha on this joyous day."
