New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency Banaras has won the award for the cleanest city on the banks of the Ganga in the country. Varanasi has been the cleanest city for the second time in a row. Earlier also, according to the Central Government's Annual Survey 2020, Varanasi was number one of the cleanest cities along the Ganga. PM Modi's biggest contribution is in making the ancient, holy city of Varanasi the cleanest city on the banks of river Ganga.

PM Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Mission from Assi Ghat in Kashi. After which the cleaning of Ganga Ghats has been going on at a fourfold pace day and night. Due to this, Kashi has got this award for the second time today. Banaras on Saturday bagged the title of the cleanest city in the cities along the Ganga at the hands of President Ram Nath Kovind. The award was received by urban development minister Ashutosh Tandon, mayor Mridula Jaiswal and officials. According to the Swachhta Survekshan-2021, Varanasi is the 7th cleanest city in Uttar Pradesh and 30th cleanest city in the country.

However, in reality, cleanliness conditions are worse in densely populated narrow areas, except on the city's main roads and posh colonies. That is why Varanasi has moved up from 27th position to 30th position in the country in terms of cleanliness this time as compared to last year.
