President Ramnath Kovind visits Siachen Base Camp

Jammu and Kashmir: India's President Ramnath Kovind toured Siachen Base Camp on his one-day visit on Thursday. He will visit a Forward Post of the Army on Thursday on Siachen along with this; he met the troops deployed here. Following the Presidential visit, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has also joined him in Kashmir.

President Ram Nath Kovind visited Siachen base camp in Jammu and Kashmir. He is the second president to visit the camp, after former President and Misile man APJ Abdul Kalam, who visited in 2004.

In his press address President Kovind said,”There was a special reason behind my excitement to meet you. I wanted to personally convey you the message that there is special respect in heart of all Indians for the soldiers and officers guarding the borders”, President Ram Nath Kovind at Siachen base camp held press conference.

On a related note Siachen is the world's highest battlefield. Notably, Siachen is known as the world's toughest battlefield, and a number of times a year, the night temperature reaches around 50 degrees near minus. Prior to deploying the soldiers in Siachen, special training and special equipment are provided to them, as well as the Jawans are not allowed to shave and bath during this period.
