NEW DELHI: Aam Admi Party AAP) will support joint opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential poll. The decision was taken in party's top-level national body Political Affairs Committee meeting held at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence on Saturday, July 16.
The Presidential poll is slated to be held on July 18 as the tenure of President Shri Ram Nath Kovind closes on July 24.
"Aam Admi Party will support Opposition's Presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. We esteem Draupadi Murmu but we will vote for Yashwant Sinha," said AAP Rajya Sabha parliament member Sanjay Singh.
"The party's Political Affairs Committee meeting was convened under the chairmanship of CM Arvind Kejriwal and unanimously the Political Affairs Committee has determined that the party will support the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha", Singh said.
Singh further said that Draupadi Murmu is the candidate of the ruling party and we respect her but in the election, we will support Yashwant Sinha, the opposition candidate. The party's MPs and MLAs would vote for Yashwant Sinha, he added.
With Bhagwant Mann becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab after AAP made a massive victory in the Assembly polls, the party's number in the Lok Sabha has been cut to zero. However, Aam Admi Party has 10 members in the Upper House, along with 62 MLAs in Delhi and 92 in Punjab.
