Anuppur: A priest committed suicide by hanging himself in Kotma police station area of Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh after a case was registered under the ST-SC Act. The family accused the police of demanding Rs 1 lakh. On Thursday, SP Jitendra Pawar attached the line to police station in-charge Ajay Baiga. He has been suspended today.

Actually, the incident is of Khodri No. 1. On May 30, a 50-year-old priest, Rameshwar Pandey, was booked by a woman named Sushila Raidas at Kotma police station for allegedly using casteist slurs. After this, the police picked up the priest Rameshwar Pandey from the house at around 1 am on Wednesday-Thursday night and brought him to the police station. The police had kept the priest locked in the police station overnight.

It is alleged that the police had called Rameshwar Pandey's family from his mobile and demanded Rs 1 lakh for not registering a case. The police had registered a case against the priest Rameshwar Pandey under sections 294, 323, 506, and 3(1)(d), 3(1)d, 3(2)(va) STSC Act and released him on bail after 24 hours. After this, on the morning of June 1, Rameshwar Pandey committed suicide by hanging himself in the house.
