Kolkata: During a public rally in Bolpur, West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the West Bengal teachers' recruitment scam and criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC), vowing to hold accountable those who jeopardized the future of the state's youth. He assured the people that justice would be served, stating, "I will not spare those who have looted the people of Bengal; this is Modi's guarantee."
Referring to the scam, PM Modi emphasized the need to punish those responsible for causing distress among the youth. He stated that over 25,000 teachers had been dismissed by the court due to the recruitment scam orchestrated by the TMC. The Prime Minister assured the youth of Bengal that those who had caused them distress would be punished and urged the BJP Bengal to establish a legal cell and a social media platform to assist the victims of the scam.
PM Modi also accused the TMC and Congress of being solely concerned about their vote bank, rather than the welfare of the people. He criticized them for spreading rumors about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which, according to him, was meant to aid people who were left stranded after partition.
Furthermore, PM Modi labeled the TMC government as "undemocratic" for controlling all institutions in the state. He highlighted the political violence in West Bengal and accused the TMC of harboring non-state actors who committed atrocities against the people. He expressed concern over the state of democracy in Bengal, stating, "TMC is digging the grave of democracy!"
PM Modi also criticized the INDIA bloc, accusing them of corruption and scams during their governance. He highlighted various scams, including the 2G scam, submarine and helicopter scams, and Commonwealth scam, alleging that the TMC was following a similar path. He emphasized the need for change and questioned the ability of the INDI alliance to think about the future.
During the rally, PM Modi expressed gratitude to a young girl who presented him with a sketch. He asked his volunteers to obtain the sketch from her and requested her address so that he could write her a letter of thanks.
The West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) teacher recruitment scam came to light following the arrest of Bengal BJP leader Partha Chatterjee, who served as the education minister in Mamata Banerjee's cabinet until his arrest on July 23, 2022.
The polling for the remaining parliamentary seats in West Bengal will be held on May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, with the results announced on June 4. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC won 34 seats in the state, while the BJP secured only 2 seats. However, the BJP improved its performance in the 2019 polls, winning 18 seats against the TMC's 22.
