New Delhi: In his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi interacted with the public. During this, PM Modi said, 'Yesterday was the festival of Magha Purnima, the month of Magha is considered to be specially connected with rivers, streams and water bodies. Our scriptures state, "Maghe nimagna: salile sushite, vikutamapa: tridivam prayanti, that is, bathing in any holy reservoir in the month of Magha is considered sacred. In every society of the world, there is a tradition associated with the river. Many civilizations have also developed on the river banks. Because our culture is thousands of years old, therefore, it gets more spread here.'

At the same time, Prime Minister Modi also said, 'There will not be a day in India when there is no water festival in some corner of the country. During the Magh days, people leave their homes and families and go to Kalpavas on the banks of rivers for the whole month. This time, Kumbh is also being held in Haridwar. Water is life for us as well as faith and is also a stream of development. Water is, in a way, more important than Paras. It is said that by the touch of Paras, iron is converted into gold. Similarly, a touch of water is necessary for life, it is necessary for development.' Simultaneously, appealing to the conservation of water, the PM said, 'Before the rainy season comes, we should start efforts for water conservation. To solve the water crisis, Sujit Ji has sent a very good message from 'Uttar Dinajpur' in West Bengal.' He said that it is true that just as there is a collective gift, so is a collective responsibility. Sujit Ji is absolutely right. River, pond, lake, rain or groundwater, are for everyone.

Apart from this, he also said, sometimes even a very small and simple question shakes the mind. These questions are not long, are very general, yet they make us think. A few days ago Aparna ji of Hyderabad asked me a similar question, he asked that 'You have been PM for so many years, have been CM, do you think there is something missing'. As simple as this question was, even difficult, I considered it and told myself that one of my shortcomings was that I could not make much effort to learn Tamil, the oldest language in the world, I could not learn Tamil. It is such a beautiful language, which is popular all over the world. Many people have told me a lot about the quality of Tamil literature and the depth of poems written in it.'
