Prime Minister pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also known as Father of  Nation popularly known as  M G Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar which in the present day is known as Gujarat.  Mahatma shares his birthday with another great Indian figure, Lal Bahadur Shastri who was born in 1904. This year we will be celebrating the 153rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Sunday morning. PM Modi bestowed flowers while bowing down in his honour. PM also paid tribute to former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. 

Prime Minister Modi Took the social media and wrote,  “Paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on #GandhiJayanti. This Gandhi Jayanti is even more special because India is marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Maybe always live up to Bapu’s ideals. I also urge you all to purchase Khadi and handicrafts products as a tribute to Gandhi.

PM Modi also recalled the second prime minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, whose birthday is also on October 2, saying he is respected throughout the country for his simplicity and decisiveness. PM also shares pictures from his exhibition in Delhi's 'Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya,' which depicts Shastri's life journey and achievements. Modi also shared audio excerpts of previous tributes he has delivered to the two great leaders.

Along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Draupadi Murmu, PM Narendra Modi, several ministers, and eminent personalities also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Congress interim Chief Sonia Gandhi, and senior politician Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion.
