Prince Harry was "morbidly obsessed" with concealing the birth of his son Archie

The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown, written by royal authority Katie Nicholl, contains brand-new disclosures about the royal family, particularly concerning Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. One of the major revelations is how closely guarded-guarded Prince Harry supposedly wanted the birth of Archie, his and Meghan Markle's kid, to be.

"One source described Harry as being 'almost morbidly obsessed' with keeping Archie's birth as secret as possible," Katie Nicholl's book reads. "An unwritten contract between the royals and the public" was allegedly violated by Prince Harry's need for secrecy, as they eagerly anticipated learning everything there was to know about the new royal child as soon as Meghan Markle gave birth, "Behind the scenes, matters were so fraught that more than one official — as I know from personal experience — was reduced to tears of frustration and despair," stated Rebecca English, Daily Mail's royal editor.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, according to Katie, were determined to alter the customs surrounding the birth of a royal child. Harry was able to avoid the media's attention when his son Archie actually arrived on May 6, 2019, saying, "Harry had always enjoyed outfoxing the media. He and Meghan were thrilled to be safely delivered of their son in London's private Portland hospital even before the palace press office had confirmed the duchess was in labour." Harry and Meghan Markle posed for a quick snap with a single reporter two days after welcoming their now 3-year-old son Archie,  "But it all felt stage-managed, with pre-approved questions, one journalist, and one photographer. It demonstrated the growing gulf between public expectations of Harry and what he felt obliged to give." Fascinatingly, Harry and Meghan also celebrated the christening of baby Archie in secret while keeping the godparents' names a secret.

Speaking of the Sussexes' need for privacy, Katie mentioned that it could be a double-edged sword,  "served an ace" and "tore another page out of the royal notebook," but they subsequently damaged the Crown's relationship with "the press, the broadcasters, and by extension the public, who felt duped by the experience – whether that was a fair expectation or not."

The father, mother, and newborn typically pose on the hospital steps after a royal birth while they are surrounded by members of the public and paparazzi. The new parents then respond to a few inquiries before leaving in their car. This was especially evident when Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed their three children, Prince Louis, 4, Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 7. The post-natal photo shoots were challenging for Kate Middleton in the past, but Nicholl stated that the Princess of Wales also struggled with the "acquiesced because she will one day be queen and the mother of a king, so there was a legitimate public interest."
